We filmed a session with the brilliant Aberystwyth blues guitarist That man dan in early March, in Scholars pub. Most of the footage was lost when a laptop died, but we managed to put this one together. Hope you enjoy.

Considering the attention given to Bon Iver front-man, Justin Vernon, it is unfortunately easy to forget that the band from Wisconsin is made up of more than one talented songwriter. Luckily, the album ‘All We Grow’ by S. Carey not only made up for the absence of material released by other members of Bon Iver, but showed that he too could write songs that were filled with harmony.

S. Carey’s new EP builds upon his texture rich debut album, swapping the wide ranging instrumentation used in ‘All We Grow’ for a more refined electronic sound, entitled ‘Hoyas’. In places, S. Carey uncannily shows the influence of Justin’s work on his style as the vocals in ‘Marfa’ and ‘Inspir’ seem to reminisce over the atmospheric sounds of Volcano Choir. Perhaps the best thing about Hoyas, however, is that each track has its own sense of individuality that could easily be enjoyed on its own. Every song could be a single, yet it would be a shame not to listen to the EP as a whole, which is arguably a collection of S. Carey’s most refined work yet.

Usually (apart from bank holidays) Mondays are rubbish, that’s why every Monday from now on, we will give you links to some of our favorite music that is, legally and generously, given away freely!

This week is the new, week and half old, ep from Vasco Da Gama <3! Enjoy!

Take a listen to this gorgeous song from The Tides from Aberystwyth
